    Yes, these protocols work by breaking the data to be sent into a series of small segments. The basic principle is that each segment is sent and the receiver sends back an ACK, an acknowledgement, to indicate that the segment was received. Once the sender receives the ACK, it can then send the next segment. If the sender doesn’t receive an ACK within a certain timeframe, it can resend the segment. This turns out to be very inefficient.
